Who can be insured?
Amateur athletes, recreational athletes, members of sports organizations and societies, as well as all participants of sports training, individually (individually) or collectively, and is contracted by sports organizations, individuals and legal entities can be insured
How, why and against what risks?
Accident insurance is one way of financially protecting individuals from the consequences of an accident while playing sports. The consequences of an accident insured by this type of insurance and related only to the specific sport activity specified in the policy are:
- partial or complete permanent disability as a result of an accident,
- death as a result of an accident,
- temporary restraint for performing sports activities
- treatment costs incurred as a result of an accident (unless covered by compulsory health insurance).
Who can be the contractor / pay for this insurance?
Sports organizations, individuals and legal entities may contract the insurance for athletes with a duration of one year or less (only during a certain competition), and the contract may additionally cover accidents occurring outside sports activities.
The amount of the insured sum (cover) is agreed with the insurer, and the price (premium) of the insurance depends on various factors, such as the type of sport, the age of the insured, the class of danger in which the sports branch is allocated, the amount of the contracted sum insured, the type of competition, etc.
What shall be indemnified and how?
- In the event of death due to an accident or complete (100%) disability, the entire sum insured agreed for that risk is paid
- In the case of partial disability, a percentage of the contracted amount of insurance is paid, and according to the percentage of disability established by the physician censor
- If additionally contracted, a daily fee will be paid per day of
temporary impediment for performing work (sports) activity. - If additionally contracted, the costs of treatment resulting from
the accident , which are not covered by the compulsory health insurance,or which the insured person had to pay, will be paid.
What are the most common injuries and who and how decides the amount of money to be indemnified?
Examples of the most common injuries that are indemnified are: injuries to the knee (meniscus and ligaments), ankle injury, shoulder injury, muscle break in the leg (leaf), Achilles tendon injury, facial bone injury and tooth injury.
The injury is evaluated by a censor doctor and determined by the percentage of damage that in most cases ranges between 10 and 20 percent (depending on the type and intensity of the injury).
PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES
Sport has been recognized as an activity of particular importance to the Republic of Serbia, which has led to amendments to the provisions of the Law on Sport, which relate to the mandatory insurance of top athletes and sports professionals, as follows:
- The sum insured cannot be less than 10,000 Euros in RSD equivalent for the death of an athlete or sports expert
- The sum insured may not be less than EUR 20,000 in RSD equivalent in case of permanent loss of the general working ability of an athlete, or sports expert or ability to engage in sports activities and sports activities.
- The sum insured may not be less than 5,000 Euros in RSD equivalent in case of temporary impediment for engaging in sports activities and sports activities, in the amount of compensation for loss of income and actual costs of treatment of the athlete or sports expert.
Why is this insurance considered a benefit to the club or national sports branch federation?
It is the responsibility of the sports club or the national branch federation to contract the insurance policy for professional athlete or sports professional (when the athlete competes for national selection). If neither the club nor the federation does, the athlete has the right to claim damages directly from them.
